Back on the beat!

Well, that was a long three months….hah. Avoid developing sciatica – it sucks.

The one upside to not being able to sit was that I did a lot of shopping! I found some terrific stuff for my eBay Store! I’ve added a bunch of K&Company Grand Adhesions and stickers,Kazoo Kids Grand Adhesions Karen Foster stickers (that would look great on a heritage page or decoupage project!)Karen Foster Stickers

and more of ProvoCraft’s no-longer-available Qwikit pages. Qwikit Pages

You can see everything in my store from my blog here.

Wounded In Action

Category : ebay related, misc

Even though it may look like it, I haven’t abandoned my blog!

After I got back from my vacation (see below!), I almost backpainimmediately developed a pinched nerve in my lower back which is making sitting at a computer painful to say the least.

My doctor says this usually takes around 3 months to heal (if you’re lucky), so I’ve got about 6 weeks to go :(

I’m still keeping up with eBay, but my blog and my gaming have been put on temporary hiatus. Once I can sit for longer than 20 minutes, I’ll be back!

Thanks for visiting!

on vacation!

Category : ebay related, misc

I’ve haven’t been posting much lately because my life has been rather, well, challenging of late.

I’m going away for a few days on a well deserved vacation and I’ve put my eBay store on vacation mode as well, so the links here on my blog back to my eBay items won’t work til I’m back.

Just so you know that those listings to the right for the get-rich-quick-on-ebay schemes aren’t mine!

I really like MME products, especially the page kits. Lovely designs and colour schemes, with great embellishments. I’ve got a few of the Kaleidoscope and Second Avenue sets listed in my eBay store and I’ve got a bunch of the Magnolia I’m going to list soon. Take a look below to see what I’ve got in stock!

Why wait?

Category : ebay related

I got so excited about the ShabbyPrincess layouts (see previous post), that I started to fool around with the Festival set immediately! It took me about an hour and a half ‘cos I’m not that great with the graphics programs, but here’s what I came up with – th_smalljoanneandlee

It’s not the most astounding page I’ve ever done, but I figure it’s not bad for a digital newbie, eh?

Great Scrapbook Kit in My eBay Store

You’ve Been Inked!

Category : ebay related

Here’s a good technique from Scrapbook Life Tips

You’ve Been Inked!

Inking is a scrapbooking technique that offers lots of variety. There is no specific way to ink your pages or images. You can’t use as little or as much ink as you would like for your project. The creativity is up do you. Ink as much as desired.

You will need:

  • Scrapbooking paper (cardstock, B&T paper, vellum, etc.)
  • Sponge (dry and clean)
  • Ink pads (your choice of colors)

Other scrapbook supplies of your choice such as stamps, scrapbooking die cuts, stickers, scrapbooking templates, etc.

Stamps & Ink

First, cut out your desired mattes and papers.

Then, dab the paper onto the inkpad turning it in various directions. You will have smudged color on your paper. You can use a sponge to fill in the color in uneven areas if you would like. The easiest route is to rub the edges of your paper against your ink pad, this will make a border around the image or your entire page.

Inking is used to add depth to your pages. It also gives it an “antique” or “weathered” look. It enhances your paper and adds color to the overall layout.

Hints:

You want to make sure you lightly dab the paper onto the pad and don’t press too hard or you might get a large, dark ink spot in one isolated area.

Lightly brush the ink across corners and edges of paper. You can also use a stipple brush for a different type of “inking effect”.

This technique works best with non-glossy papers.

You can softly ink around your photo mats to give them texture and make them stand out behind your photograph.

Inking your pages or card creations can add a unique twist to your scrapbooking creations. Instead of coloring your images dab them in a little ink for shading and your done.

Scrappers Block Part Deux

Category : ebay related, shopping, techniques

Now here’s a topic I really identify with! It happens to me on a regular basis, especially at big crops or retreats. I’ll be happily scrapping for hours, finish a bunch of pages and then just stop. No ideas. No inspiration. No nothing!

Usually I just get up and wander around for awhile, looking at other peoples’ pages, or go hassle my Creative Memories consultant (I believe in making her earn her commission!) for a bit. If it’s really bad, I’ll try and use the time to re-organize my paper collection or the gargantuan sticker binder. Eventually inspiration will strike and I’ll start up again, but, jeez, it’s frustrating.

Last retreat I went to last fall, I tried something different. I picked up the Creative Memories Power PaletteCreative Memories Power Palette Cabana package and vowed that, using that, I would complete an entire album in a weekend. Now, you have to understand that I am what you might call slow when it comes to scrapping. I need to agonize over every shade of blue or style of sticker or I’m just not happy! Using the Power Palette though, all those decisions were made for me. Using the idea book that came with the set, even the layouts were there for me to copy. And I did get a whole 12×12 album done in the weekend!

It was a very successful experiment. I don’t think I’d do a whole album like that again – it’s nice that it has a continuous theme, but it also looks a little cookie-cutter as well. 6 of one half dozen of another, I guess. What I will do though is starting keeping more page kits around for Scrapper’s Block emergencies!

Maybe like these ones I have in my eBay store right now!

And now on to the article!

5 Ways to Add Distressing to Your Scrapbook Pages

by Dawn Stegall

Distressing is a popular trend now in scrapbooking. Whether you like shabby chic or want to go for a more aged/weathered/heritage style, distressing your papers will give you the look you desire. Here are five fun ways to add distressing to your scrapbook pages.1. Distress by wadding/crumpling your paper. Simply wad up your paper into a ball. You may want to experiment with how much or tightly you wad your paper. Now unfold your paper and flatten with your hands. (You may need to wad again if you haven’t achieved the results you were hoping for). Besides using your hands to flatten out your paper, you may choose to use a brayer or even a warm iron.

2. Achieve a weathered look by sanding with a fine sandpaper, emery board or sanding block (I found some sanding blocks for nails at the dollar store). Gently sand your cardstock/paper where you want it distressed. Continue to sand and alter the surface until you reach your desired look. You can sand the edges or gently sand the entire surface for a more weathered look. Another method is to fold your paper and sand on the fold. When you reopen the paper it leaves a prominent line as in an old document. Do you have some older papers or stickers lying around with a nice slick and shiny surface? Take these outdated products, sand them to remove the shine and give them a whole new look.

3. Easily tear or roll your paper for a vintage look. Tearing away from you or towards you provide different results. Cardstock with a white core will have a white edge shown through. Experiment and find what you like best. If you find your cardstock difficult to tear, try wetting lightly with a paint brush or Qtip first. You can further age the torn edges with ink or chalk. Roll the edges for a fun look as well.

4. Scrape or use a wire brush to achieve a distressed look. Scrape the edges of your cardstock carefully until you reach the desired look. Check for specialty scrapers made just for paper. A wire brush can be gently brushed over your paper to weather it. Try random brush strokes, or lines and even plaids. Have fun experimenting.

5. Now that you have wadded, crumpled and sanded, add some color back to your paper. You can use chalks, ink, metallic rub-ons or stains. Using your fingertips, Qtips, sponges, tissue or whatever else you want apply using a circular motion until the desired result is reached. You can also apply ink directly to your paper. My favorite technique is to ink the edges by directly brushing ink pad to edge of paper. Stains made especially for scrapbooking can easily be found now including walnut ink, stains, washes, etc. You can also use items found around the house such as coffee, tea and Kool-Aid.

Are you ready to try a distressed look in your next scrapbook layout? Crumple, wad, sand, tear, roll, scrape, ink, chalk and stain to your hearts content. Which technique will you try first? Have fun distressing your next layout!
